1.11.2015. The biggest name on the program was Hiromi, so for her the organization hired the biggest venue Dom Sindikata. More space, more seats and a bigger stage. But it was not only Hiromi taking benefits from a bigger stage, the RTS Big Band with some great extra artists like Christof Lauer did the same.
After the Big Band there was Hiromi. These days Hiromi sells, because the venue was completely sold out. Hiromi played well with her trio, but I was not always satisfied with the chemistry between the three and the sound of the huge drumkit sometimes overruled Hiromi. It was not the most remarkable concert of the festival.
Hiromi was not the end of the evening. There was an exciting part to come. First the enthousiast modern and fresh Firebirds from Denmark with uptempo free jazz, and then the best show of the day Rudresh Mahanthappa and his band. Rewarded with a lot of awards. Rudresh is hot these days, so it was time to hear and see him play. He brought and excellent band with new member Joshua White on piano and the more than good trumpet player Adam O’farril. His music was interesting with mostly pieces of “Bird Calls”, his last project. Charlie Parker would be thankful for him playing like this. Exciting concert and for me the last, since the last day I need to skip, because of obligations.
